It's the last episode of Unprepared of 2016! We made it! And by we I mean Jesse and Kevin. You and I know both know that measures of time are pretty arbitrary, and the whole "2016" meme doesn;t actually mean anythign will get better in th new year. But you have to start somewhere. Happy end of 2016 everybody. This week Jesse and Kevin talk about Star Wars.

Jesse disagrees with, but enjoyed the The Dark Knight episode of Movies with Mikey.

Ryan North is the amazing person behind Dinosaur Comics, Adventure Time comics, Squirrel Girl, Project Wonderful, and getting stuck in a hole with his dog.

Kevin was involved in an "international incident" because of the Machine of Death Kickstarter.

The only thing that Jesse has kickstarted was season one of Put This On.

This story about a failed Kickstarter drone is wild.

"Coffee Joulies" were a dumb kickstarter that used magic metals to do absolutely nothing to your coffee.

Todd VanDerWerff wrote a good Rogue One review with a "confusing" headline.

Kevin is going to make Alton Brown's hot cocoa mix and has made his eggnog before.

Kevin enjoys drinking batch-pasteurized milk.

We discuss a variety of survival shows.

Apparently millennials don't buy fabric softener.

Listerine invented bad breath to sell mouth wash.

Dec 23, 2016

It's December 23rd. Also known as Christmas Adam (The day before Christmas Eve,) Kevin's Parent's Anniversary, Kevin's Partner's Birthday and Festivus (all true.) Look, what we're trying to say is there's a lot going on right now and Kevin may have had too much eggnog last night. But here's a podcast where Jesse and Kevin talk about Sexy Cowboys.

Also It's Jesse's birthday on the 26th, so do something special that day too.

Ride Austin is a non-profit ride share service.

Trump's Education Secretary Pick is into child labor.

Kevin never wears real shoes because he's a Birkenstock loyalist.

Kevin teaches Jesse all about Creative Commons licenses.

Stephen King licenses some of his work for one dollar.

Kevin may be expanding his podcast empire.

We have a spoiler-rich discussion of Westworld.

We both miss Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.

Kevin liked Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs movie.

Dec 16, 2016

This week Jesse and Kevin talk about Hobbits kissing, good and bad covers of songs from Hamilton, how to make tea if you're a snob, unpopular opinions about the Yeti ramblers, finding beer on a college campus, weird foods, weird infused vodkas, Kevin's weird collections, cool Christmas presents, and rabid puppies.

The Hamilton Mixtape is out. Kevin likes Queen Latifah and Jesse hates Jimmy Fallon.

Jesse really likes Childish Gambino's new album "Awaken, My Love!". His show Atlanta is also great.

Kevin uses a Zojirushi kettle and Jesse likes their travel mugs.

Jesse accidentally bought a very bad tea kettle.

Kevin does Penny Arcade pin trading.

Kevin discusses various sorting algorithms.

Cards Against Humanity dug a tremendous hole in the earth.

Kevin introduces Jesse to the works of Chuck Tingle.

Dec 9, 2016

This week Jesse and Kevin talk about exploiting workers, protecting your privacy, weird copyright situations, movies and tv shows that are objectively bad, and some that are obviously good.

Jesse updated how he does the links, so Kevin has even less work to do in describing the episode for these notes. Did you know Jesse edits each episode? And writes the Links section you always find below these notes? All Kevin does is upload the episodes, writes these short blurbs and manages the hosting. And I guess they both keep showing up to talk to each other. So that's where they share the load some. Also Jesse and Kevin both write things in the third person when writing about the episodes. I guess it gives everything a sense of being a part of something larger. Like if they had an unpaid intern who did all the grunt work, and Jesse and Kevin just show up. But no. It's just Jesse and Kevin, doing everything.

Kevin blocks ads with EFF's Privacy Badger.

Jesse blocks ads with Ghostery and 1Blocker.

The DECK and Project Wonderful are cool ad platforms.

Mozilla makes a dumb ad supported browser called Brave.

Sarah Jeong gave a great talk about ad blocking at the XOXO Festival.

The Toast was a cool website that Hillary Clinton wrote for once.

You should not do creative work "for exposure".

Jesse is divorced, but his wedding photographers were incredible.

Stan Lee doesn't own the copyright for his Marvel characters.

Kevin has opinions on copyright that might make Jesse's sister mad.

A monkey took a selfie and the copyright got complicated.

wikiHow artwork is terrifying and makes for a fun game.

Cookin Good was a bizarre cooking show on Austin's public access.

The Room and Birdemic: Shock and Terror are good bad movies.

Kevin thinks Dude, Where's My Car? is a good movie. (It's not.)

Trekkies made fun Star Trek fans.

The Middle-Earth canon is complicated.

Movies with Mikey made Kevin and Jesse cry about Serenity.

Sci-fi universes get weird when authors die.

Kevin is currently reading Fluency by Jennifer Foehner Wells and March by John Lewis.

Jesse thinks Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are too attractive to be in space.

Jesse finished watching Battlestar Galactica, Luke Cage, and The Crown; is now rewatching Parks and Rec.

Parks and Rec "grew the beard" when Rob Lowe and Adam Scott showed up.

Unprepared officially recognizes Taiwan as a sovereign entity.

Kevin lays out the timeline of the Star Trek TV shows.

Bryan Fuller is no longer involved in the Star Trek: Discovery.

It's true, Jesse forgot to turn on his microphone when we recorded this episode. And then Kevin wrote a really funny, and very long shownote about it. (It may not have been that funny, but it was long.) Then the page crashed and it was lost. We give up.

Here's 3 hours and 14 minutes of Kevin talking while you can kind of hear Jesse in the background.

Nov 25, 2016

This week Jesse and Kevin talk about some stuff. I'll be honest, It's Black Friday as I post this and I haven't had time to listen to this and write the show notes. I was gorging myself on turkey and mashed potatoes. Let's look at the links below, maybe that will give us a hint. So there's something about apples. I don't even remember talking about the book Ishmae, but I gues we did. And figs have wasps in them? That's terrifying. Bake Off is a good show, you should probably watch that.

On November 8 2016 Donal Trump was elected president of the United States. On November 5 2016 Jesse and Kevin talked about a lot of things. This is what they said about the election days before it happened. We pulled this out of the larger conversation we had and are posting it as it's own episode. We'll have more content about goofy things later, but we wanted to put this out now. Stay safe and take care of each other.

This one's a doozy. I hope you like listening to Jesse and Kevin talk (You listen to this podcast don't you?) because this episode is almost 2 and a half hours long. Which happens when we sit down to record and end up with over 5 hours of audio. We just cant stop talking. That might also explain why the latest episode is a few days late.

This week we talk about, making cider, other podcasts we like, buying clothes and some other stuff. Look the episode is over 2 hours long, I can't list everything.

A couple of changes with this episode. First of all, it's nearly 90 minutes long. Secondly, we're trying a weekly release schedule to see if it works. Jesse and Kevin just talk so much that if we released just what we have in the can on the previous schedule, we would be releasing material until October. So what does this new schedule mean for you the listener? More stuff to put in your ears!

This week's episode involves mountain climbing, fun places to poop, pizza magic, putting out fires, sitcom families.

Jul 22, 2016

This one gets a little heavy. After a diversion to discuss tronc and Jeb Bush's memes, Jesse and Kevin spend some time talking about the Stanford rapist and the role of allies in difficult times. Then we pivot to politics more generally and end on a movie recommendation.

Jesse doesn't get arrested! Also, we talk a lot about Christmas traditions, which is perfect for the middle of July.
